Empowering the Next Generation of Wind Energy Researchers

Published on
January 22, 2025

The High Wind Conference, set to take place on March 4, 2025, in Stavanger, Norway, is a premier event dedicated to the offshore wind industry. This year, the conference continues its commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration by offering a specialized program for PhD candidates. Coordinated by Anna Kraaijeveld Enerstvedt, this initiative aims to promote knowledge exchange and collaboration among doctoral researchers in wind energy.

PhD Candidate Program: Building Connections and Advancing Research

The pre-conference program is designed to bring together doctoral researchers from cities within the World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP). This initiative not only helps students connect with each other.

  • The program will be a combination of getting to know the students and their respective research fields, as well as meeting the regional clusters, research communities, and businesses, says Enerstvedt.

Strengthening Ties Within the WECP Collaboration

The WECP is a collaboration of cities with significant energy sector interests, each facing similar challenges in the energy transition. By fostering a collaborative approach, the initiative aims to strengthen ties between these energy cities. The PhD students who are engaged in this WECP-network are at the forefront of addressing pressing challenges in energy transition, many of which are focusing on the social embeddedness and community effects of new energy infrastructure.

Leveraging Expertise to Tackle Shared Challenges

Many participants in the PhD network are exploring critical aspects of the energy transition. “Through collaborative efforts, we aim to leverage their expertise to tackle shared challenges collectively,” Enerstvedt explains. This program underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the role of young researchers in driving the future of wind energy.
